Award-winning writer Annemarie Allan will be the first guest author in a series of author reading events taking place in 2018, jointly hosted by The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities and Scottish Book Trust Live Literature scheme. This event is part of the programme for Refugee Festival Scotland 2018 and supports Year of Young People 2018.
Join Annemarie as she reads an excerpt from her well-received children’s novel ‘Charlie’s Promise’.
Synopsis & Review:
“On the outskirts of Edinburgh, just before the outbreak of WW2, Charlie finds a starving German boy hiding in the woods near his home. Josef can’t speak English and is desperately afraid, especially of anyone in uniform. Charlie’s promise to help Josef find his Jewish relatives in the city is the start of a journey that will force them to face their fears, testing their new-found friendship to the limit.”
Charlie’s Promise is “a timely reminder of the need for humanity in our approach to people who have lost their homes, their families, their countries, and come looking for sanctuary.” - John Fulton
After the reading, you will then have the opportunity to discuss the themes raised in the book, followed by the chance to participate in a writing workshop led by Annemarie.
A kosher buffet of smoked salmon bagels and rugelach will be served, allowing you time to relax and mingle with other guests, including with Annemarie Allan herself.
All welcome | suitable for ages 9+
