Rod Puppets
Tuesday 17 July / 11am-3.45pm / Ages 7-12 / £15
Join the Scottish Mask & Puppet Centre to make your own rod puppet from a wide selection of colourful decorative materials in the morning, before bringing it to life with mime, improvisation and story creation skills in the afternoon.

8-storey Musical Instrument
Friday 20 July / 11am-1pm / Ages 9-13 / £7
Using special microphones, simple tech and a range of sound effects, turn the Tolbooth into one huge musical instrument by making stairs, walls and objects trigger sounds and music.

Scratch Coding
Monday 23 July / 11am-3.30pm / Ages 8-11 / £8
Computer coding workshops for complete beginners – fly rockets to the moon, mess about with monkeys and design your own rock band!

Python Coding

A beginner’s introduction exploring how to design games, software and other programmes.

Photography & Camera Techniques
Wednesday 25 July / 11am-3.30pm / Ages 8-11 / £12
Thursday 26 July / 11am-3.30pm / Ages 12-16 / £12
Explore different elements of photography and learn interesting tips, tricks and techniques. Please bring own DSLR camera with blank memory card and charged battery. Cameras can also be provided. Bring a pen drive to take photos home.

Garageband
Friday 27 July / 11-1pm / Age 8-12 / £6
Turn your iPad into a whole range of virtual musical instruments and play together as a group using the ‘Garageband’ app. Fun, quick and easy, open to both musicians and non-musicians. iPads provided.

Lego Animation
Monday 30 July / 11am-1pm & 1.30-3.30pm / Ages 8 + / £6
Using simple and fun animation software, build characters and settings using Lego before letting your imagination run wild bringing them to life!

Pump Up The Jam - Summer Session
Tuesday 31 July & Wednesday 1 August / 11am-3.30pm / Ages 9-13 / £20
An introduction to our regular term-time songwriting and band workshop that runs throughout the year. Form a band on the day, learn the basics of how to write your own indie/rock/pop style song and perform it live!

Robotics
Tuesday 31 July / 11am-1pm / Ages 10 + / £6
Build and programme your own 3D-printed robot which you can then take home with loads more programming activities to do on your own.

Art
Thursday 2 August / 11am-4pm / Ages 8-12 / £12
Using a variety of drawing media you will explore colour, shape, texture and line. In the afternoon take these drawings and turn them into a wonderful print to take home!

Jazz Big Band In A Day
Friday 3 August / 10am-4pm / Ages 10-21 / £6

A fun and hands-on workshop inspired by animals, birds and fish. Bright and bold colours, will be used to create striking paper mosaics.

Paper Collage: Landscapes of the Countryside
Tuesday 7 August / 1.30-3.30pm / Ages 11-14 / £6
Exploring collage through layering, cutting and tearing paper and other materials.

Animation: Monsters in 3D and 2D
Wednesday 8 August / 10.30am-4pm / Ages 10-12 / £13
Bring your own drawings of weird creatures to life in 2D animations in fantastical places. In the afternoon, build your critter in 3D plasticine and animate them with stop-motion apps. All films will go online.

Animation: Toys Unlimited!
Thursday 9 August / 10.30am-4.00pm / Ages 7-9 / £13
Whether it’s a toy robot firing lasers or a monster on the rampage - bring your toys to life with animation! Bring along a small-ish toy (5 – 15 cm toy that stands upright without help!) or choose from some of ours. Followed by a 2D drawn animation session. All films will go online.

Studio Recording
Thursday 9 & Friday 10 August / 11am-3.30pm / Age 13+ / £18 for 2 days
2-day course taking place in the Tolbooth Recording Studio that’ll introduce you to all the techniques and practices involved in recording a band or artist in a professional music studio.

Day of Traditional Music
Tuesday 14 August / 10am-4.15pm / Ages 9-21 / £6
Open to all instruments and levels of experience. Bring own instrument (a small number of fiddles/guitars available to borrow – please request when booking). Short performance at end of day for family to attend 3.45pm – 4.15pm. www.tolboothtrad.com

Join celebrated folk artist Rachel Sermanni for a masterclass in songwriting, gaining insight into how she approaches her work and pick up tips, advice and perhaps a whole new perspective on your own writing. Great opportunity for those with some experience writing their own songs.
