Have you thought about trying 'mindfulness' but have no idea where to begin? Mindfulness is not obscure or exotic. It’s familiar to us because it’s what we already do, who we already are. If you've ever balanced on one leg in yoga, rock climbed, ridden a mountain bike over a tricky bit of ground, scrambled up rocks, carefully iced a cake etc. you are being mindful.
Imagine tapping into that concentration or mindfulness on a regular basis, especially when you are stressed and react badly to situations or turn to long held habits that no longer serve you, i.e. wine, coffee, TV, junk food. Mindfulness teaches us to stop and take stock, to breath and respond or not respond, to breath and give our body something nourishing instead of toxic.
We already have the capacity to be present, and it doesn’t require us to change who we are, but we can cultivate those qualities with simple practices that are scientifically demonstrated to benefit us in many ways.
Just lying down in savasana during yoga is so relaxing, but sometimes we need to come to a yoga class to give ourselves permission to switch off our body and brain.
Our 8 week mindfulness course starts on Thursday, 23rd of August and runs until the 11th of October. The sessions are 1 hour long and will take place at 7pm, every Thursday evening for 8 weeks at HEAT Fitness in Springkerse. You can book for the whole 8 weeks in a block or choose to drop in.
Cost: £70 for a block of 8 (pay for 8 and get 1 free) or £10 drop in rate.
