About ES Thomson Gets Gothic

ES Thomson is a writer of historical fiction and historical crime fiction. Her new book, The Blood, was published in April 2018. It's a dark and gothic tale of murder and ambition set on a decayed and ancient floating hospital ship, and amongst the seedy docklands of 1840s London. The Blood is the third adventure for cross-dressing apothecary Jem Flockhart. Book one, Beloved Poison, was shortlisted for the Scottish Crime Book of the Year Award and for the prestigious William McIlvanney Award in 2016. Elaine has a PhD in the history of medicine, and when she's not busy writing, works as a university lecturer in Edinburgh.
