Francis Poulenc, Gloria
David Fanshawe, African Sanctus
The Rosenethe Singers are back in action again! In our first pure "Rosenethe" concert since 2019, we are delighted to present an exciting, indeed ground-breaking concert!
Our programme starts with Poulenc's exuberant Gloria, first performed in 1961. Scored for soprano soloist, orchestra and choir.
During the same decade that Poulenc completed the serene final bars of his Gloria, the English composer and explorer David Fanshawe was hitch-hiking around Africa, with the idea of composing a sacred work juxtaposed with recordings of indigenous music.
Fanshawe's African Sanctus is an extraordinary work, a multimedia piece from a time when the genre was rare, even in the word of rock music. It is music which builds bridges between cultures, and which has a powerful message of reconciliation in these often-fragmented times.
