Sewing Techniques: All Kinds of Zips

About Sewing Techniques: All Kinds of Zips

We are thrilled to welcoming Jen Hogg, semi-finalist on this year’s Great British Sewing Bee back to F&M to teach this 2 hour workshop. (class booking is via Jen’s website – please see details at the end of this listing).

Do invisible zips leave you cold? Would you love to make jeans but can’t face a fly zip? Come along for expert tips and guidance on how to sew the perfect zip. Your invisible zips will be invisible – unless you choose to make a feature of a coloured zipper tape. Adding a zip to jersey fabric needn’t be wavy. Your fly zips will fly off the machine and your lapped zips will make you want to run round the track in glee. Bad jokes are also included in this course. You can bring along your own zipper foot so that you can practise with it, but we do have regular and invisible zipper feet for you to use in the studio.

What the class will cover:
Invisible zip
Fly zip
Lapped zip
zips in jersey
Zip with added trims
all subject to time

What’s included:
Fabric and zips required to practise, plus interfacing, thread etc

Tea and biscuits.

What you’ll need to bring:
Your basic sewing kit – scissors, hand sewing needles etc
Regular zipper foot for the sewing machine.
If you have a snap-on invisible zip foot, please bring it along too.
Notebook & pencil

NOTE:
This is an intermediate class, it is not suitable for complete beginners.

You must have a little sewing experience under your belt i.e. following accurate seam allowances, handling fabric, basic experience cutting from a pattern.

This class is suitable for adults only. Minimum age 16

COST:
£39 for this workshop, or if you want to come along to the workshop on zips on the same day, £69 for both.

Please note booking for this class is via Jen’s website, please do not book via this listing.
