Youngsters from Cornton Primary School have been on the trail of Stirling’s magical reindeer this festive season.

Teachers, pupils and parent helpers walked into Stirling during the run-up to Christmas to take part in the city’s first Reindeer Trail.

They were especially excited to see the colourful reindeer created by a group of youngsters from their own P4 class which has pride of place in the window of a Murray Place business.

The animal was among a herd of 20 life-size reindeer, all designed by local schoolchildren, which flew into Stirling in November to take up residence in shops and cafés across the city for the popular Reindeer Trail.

The initiative, launched by Go Forth Stirling Business Improvement District, has created a buzz around Stirling inspiring people to visit different retailers and enjoy some festive fun.

Cornton Primary teacher Nicola Watt took her P4 class into Stirling to follow the Reindeer Trail map and they also enjoyed a trip on the city’s Landtrain.

She said: “My class was delighted to come up with one of the winning reindeer designs and our Acting Headteacher, Lynne Goodwin, thought it would be a great idea to take our classes individually into Stirling to enjoy the Trail.

“It was a good way of celebrating the success of our own children as well as seeing all the ideas other schools came up with for the reindeer and how they interpreted the design brief.

“We had a fun and busy day out and about in Stirling seeing the Christmas lights as well as spotting the reindeer and taking photographs of them and it was a good opportunity to promote health and wellbeing.

“We managed to track down most of the 20 reindeer and what we hope now is that the children will complete the Trail over the holidays enjoying some family fun while supporting our local businesses.

“The Reindeer Trail is a great idea and we’re pleased to have had the chance to be a part of it.”

Go Forth Stirling Director Jon Walton is delighted with the response to the Reindeer Trail with more than 400 entries submitted so far.

He said: “I’m very impressed with the interest Cornton Primary has taken in the Trail.

“It was amazing to see their pupils and so many other children out and about in Stirling having fun finding the reindeer in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

“We’ve had great feedback from both traders and participants and think the reindeer add a fantastic extra dimension to our wonderful city centre.

“There’s still time to enter the competition and we’re looking forward to seeing more entries flood in as children take part in the Trail during the Christmas holidays.

“And watch out on our social media and website channels for a special video that will give a few more clues as to where these beautiful reindeer are located.”

He added: “Thanks so much to all the schools who created the fantastic reindeer! There has been a real buzz about the city.”

Shoppers are encouraged to find all 20 reindeer hosted in businesses around Stirling city centre in a competition which could win them an iPad.

They can pick up a map – complete with clues - and note down the location of every animal along with the name of the school which designed it.

Schools across Stirling submitted individual or group designs for the reindeer and staff at Go Forth Stirling were delighted to receive 160 entries.

A total of 20 winners were chosen from 17 schools who were provided with paints to decorate the 1.7m high 3D reindeer.

The reindeer will remain in Stirling throughout the festive season with the closing date for competition entries on Saturday January 5, 2019.
The winner of the Reindeer Trail, who will be drawn at random from all correct entries, will receive an iPad and there are five runners-up prizes on offer including family passes for popular Stirling tourist attractions.

Meanwhile, one of the schools will win a prize for their design with competition entrants asked to vote for the Best Reindeer Design.

More details about how to take part in the Reindeer Trail along with downloadable maps and entry forms can be found at www.stirling-city.co.uk

Entry forms can also be picked up at various locations throughout the city including the businesses hosting reindeer, the Tourist Information Centre, Stirling City Radio and Thistles Shopping Centre.
