Together let’s celebrate national nest box week by building your own nest box to help nature. Discover about our different local birds and their nesting requirements, then create a nest box specific for your chosen bird; robin, blue tit or swift. Decorate the nest box however you wish and put up in a garden just in time for the birds to find their residency for laying eggs in Spring.
Afterwards, you are welcome to explore the wonderful saltmarsh at Skinflats, embracing our local cultural heritage and spotting different wildlife such as garden birds, including our resident woodpecker, and many wading birds along the shoreline of The River Forth. The trail is a grass path so we would recommend walking boots or wellies.
This activity is fun and accessible for friends, families and individuals of all ages and abilities. Book tickets based on number of nest boxes you would like to build, £7.50 per nest box.
It will be hosted at RSPB Skinflats reserve, FK28PP. The reserve has a car park, toilet facilities and an indoor space for the unpredictable Scottish weather! The best way to access the reserve is from the Bowtrees roundabout, follow signs for Powfoulis Manor Hotel, turn left and drive down the farm track road through the fields until a T-junction, take a left, then first right and follow a long single track road through a tunnel of beautiful trees to be surprised at the bottom of the oasis of Skinflats Reserve.
If any questions, email innerforthreserves@rspb.org.uk
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
