We’ll learn how to mono-print using gel plates and explore the layering of colour and printed texture, and play with image transfer using photographs from magazines. We’ll learn about what papers and paints work best so that you can carry on creating if you’re hooked on this magical image transfer technique (you will be!). Once you’ve amassed a collection of printed papers we’ll start to compose and play, incorporating what we have made into playful collaged compositions. Use found and collected images alongside your textures to create mini narratives, abstract artworks, and go wherever your imagination takes you! We have a vast collection of imagery for you to use, but you are very welcome to bring in your own collection of found postcards, wrappings, photographs, magazines… whatever inspires you!
About Your Tutor:
Frances studied Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone college of Art and Design, Dundee and at Edinburgh College of Art, she works in collage using found images, vintage ephemera and mark making. In this world saturated with images, collage brings a focus on looking, on finding hidden narratives, on connected histories and shared experiences.
Frances has exhibited in Scotland, London, Belgium and the USA. She has won awards in 2001 (RSA student printmaker of the year) in 2019 (Visual Arts Scotland, Studio Faire Residency Award) and she has also been selected for several open exhibitions both online and actual and has been an award winner in a Kanyer Art Collection online open competition and has work in their ‘Contemporary Collage’ collection in the USA.
