In this full day workshop, you will learn the basics of brioche knitting in the round. We will work on the reversible Brionia Hat pattern designed by ViTalina Craft, which is a great beginner friendly project using both one-colour and two-colour brioche knitting.
We will cover the following skills:
Two-colour Italian (or tubular) cast on
Knitting brioche in the round with two colours
Knitting brioche in the round with one colour
Decreasing for crown using the brioche technique
We will provide the lovely hat pattern and you can choose from beautiful contrasting colours of yarn for your hat in Drops Flora (Fingering weight). You’ll also be able to purchase beautiful hand dyed yarns from The Woolchemist on the day at a discounted price of £15 per 100g skein.
Our tutor, Roni will lead you through the process of casting on and knitting this brioche hat, and you will receive links to helpful video tutorials to remind you of the more technical aspects so you can complete your hat at home.
You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to knit brioche items in the round, and the Advanced Brioche Workshop (that will come this summer) will build on the skills you learn here!
Fingering weight yarn and knitting pattern will be provided, please bring your preferred long circular, or short circular plus Double Pointed needles (recommended size: 3.5 mm, minimum length for magic loop 80cm).
We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits during the workshop, and there will be a lunch break.
This class is suitable for confident knitters already familiar with knitting and purling, working in the round (with or without using the magic loop technique) and able to work with an even tension.
The workshop will run 10am-5pm.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
