Gather round our panoramic views as we design from the workshop window. Stripes are possibly the most weaveable of forms; here we’ll be using strips of solid colour, taken from the view, which you’ll be asked to cut and reassemble into a weaveable design. Neighbouring stripes will explore changes of tone and colours delineated by techniques such as soumak, twinning and pick and pick. Angled or straight junctions will enable learning how to control diagonal lines and for the more experienced, choices of how to join areas of weave with either slits or interlocking techniques.
About Your Tutor:
Louise completed her art foundation on the Isle of Man, before moving onto Middlesex University. During a degree in Constructed Textiles she was introduced to tapestry, weave and knit. Of these the freedom of expression and techniques in tapestry offered the greatest appeal. Graduating with 1st class Hons, Louise moved on to a Masters in Applied Art at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. Louise has since travelled widely as teacher and speaker. Periods of residency abroad continue to be pivotal with her own work. Spaces with which to be static, to absorb and respond; Mongolia, Iceland, Turkey and Finland. Exploration being central, rather than preconceived results.
She has twice been nominated for the Prestigious Cordis Prize for Tapestry, and was the overall winner of the prize in 2020.
