In this one day workshop you will learn the art of duplicate stitch embroidery, or Swiss darning – a technique that makes simple knits look like complex colour-work with just a tapestry needle and yarn! Using an existing piece of stocking stitch knitwear as the base, this class will lead you through the process of drafting a design, placing it, and embroidering it into your knit seamlessly. This technique is perfect for upcycling tired or second hand knits, as well as being a beautiful addition to your knitwear design skillset. If you’re not a knitter, this is a great way to create custom designs without getting in a tangle, and if you’re a seasoned knitter this is a great skill to add to your repertoire.
Participants will be asked to bring along their choice of garment to embellish. Your knit should be a plain stocking stitch, as illustrated in the attached pictures. Please get in touch if you need any help.
