Last year, Emma Russell, now aged 11 from St Mary’s Episcopal Primary School in Dunblane beat over 100 local children to win a Christmas story writing competition hosted by Thistles shopping centre in Stirling. Emma’s book, ‘A Thistle’s Adventure’, which follows Kalo the naughty elf and his attempts to sabotage Christmas at Thistles, won over the judges including award-winning author, Alan Windram, who met with Emma and her classmates to discuss how to write a book and what it’s like to be an author.
This Saturday (18th November) during Book Week Scotland, Emma will be signing copies of her newly published book at Waterstone’s, Stirling where will it be available to purchase with all proceeds donated to St Mary’s Episcopal Primary School’s fundraising efforts.
To turn Emma’s story into a published picture book, Thistles enlisted the help of local Stirling artist, Lauren Ashley, who brought Emma’s characters to life through beautiful hand-drawn illustrations. Lauren will be supporting Emma at the book launch by live-painting some of the Christmas characters from the story in the Waterstone’s window.
