Fold forming is a metalworking technique where metal is folded, hammered, and forged to create intricate sculptural forms. This process uses the metal’s natural flexibility to form complex, organic structures, often resembling leaves, flowers, or other natural forms. It allows for creating unique textures and patterns without extensive soldering or complex tools. By folding and working the metal you can produce a wide variety of artistic and functional pieces, from jewellery to small vessels.
This class is perfect for both beginners and experienced jewellers.
Techniques covered:
creating straight and curved folds in copper
hammering or rolling straight folds to form creases in the metal
forging edges to form organic, leaf-like structures
varying the metal’s width along a fold allowing for more complex designs
exploring curved folds combined with roll-printed textures.
Your tutor:

She has taken part in the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Fair exhibition in London and the Elements Festival of Jewellery, Silver and Gold in Edinburgh.
