Learn the essential techniques of cutting, layering, and fusing glass to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Guided by Una Galbraith, you’ll explore the properties of glass, experiment with colour and texture, learn how to cut glass, and design your own small projects, such as jewellery, drink stirrers, bookmarks, hanging decorations, tiles, or magnets. You might even like to create your own inclusions for mosaic projects if you already create mosaic art. We’ll be in touch with you before the day to see if you have ideas for what you might like to create or if you’d prefer to do one of the projects Una suggests.
With all materials and tools provided, this workshop offers a relaxed and creative environment to ignite your artistic side. Perfect for anyone curious about glass art, this introduction promises a fun and inspiring experience! It’s a relaxed atmosphere where, not only will you develop your glass fusing skills, but you’ll also have an enjoyable day out.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners but more experienced fusers are welcome too.
Your pieces will need to be fired in the kiln and you can collect them a few days later, or we can post them out to you.
This is also a great workshop for team building and private parties – if you’d like to book for a private event, contact Rhona at rhonaduffy@mosaicandglass.com
Important notes:
Course includes tuition, use of tools, materials, and tea/coffee/snacks.
Please bring your own lunch and utensils – or you can buy lunch at a nearby shop/snack bar.
All our workshops are suitable for over age 16s.
If the workshop you were looking at is fully booked, email rhonaduffy@mosaicandglass.com and we’ll add you to the waiting list. We will add extra dates to our most popular workshops too, so join our newsletter mailing list to be the first to know.
This workshop has a maximum of eight participants.
In case of insufficient registrations, the workshop will be cancelled and you’ll get a refund of your workshop fee. We do expect this workshop to run, however.
If you wish to cancel your place, a refund (minus bank charges) will only be possible if someone else takes your place.
About your tutor:
Una Galbraith is a glass artist based in Central Scotland. Her journey as a glass maker began with a night class at The Glasgow School of Art in 2017 and she’s now a member of both the Contemporary Glass Society, and the Scottish Glass Society where she's also a Board Member. She explores subjects concerning psychology, nature and conservation through kiln-formed glass. In 2023, Una received a VACMA award to develop a collection inspired by the peat and bog ecosystem of Caithness and the wider flowlands landscape, which was exhibited at Artisan& in October 2023. She’s a regular exhibitor at Artisan& in Aberfeldy and was one of seven artists represented by Artisan& at Edinburgh Art Fair 2024.
