Participants on this 1-day course will learn how to make a traditional woven hazel hurdle from hazel sticks cut from coppice sites in Central Scotland.
You'll learn all parts of the process, including: selecting and preparing hazel rods for the different parts of a hurdle; splitting the rods; setting the uprights, or zales; weaving; and finishing. Participants will take their own hurdles home, each hurdle measuring approx. 6ft by 3ft.
The workshop takes place over one day, running around 10am to 4pm, on our site in Stirlingshire. All tools and materials are provided. Tea, coffee and snacks are provided throughout the day but please bring your own lunch. You are welcome to cook over the fire.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
