All events are suitable for children aged 8-12 years and no adults are required.
16th March - Bows and Arrows
Are you a budding Robin Hood or would you like to be an Elf from Lord of the Rings? A good start is to make yourself a bow and some arrows. This session will show you how and there will also be time for some target practice too, before you take your bow and arrows home.
23rd March - Nature's World
Our wild things are starting to wake up from hibernation. Come for an afternoon of discovery and learning with our ranger service, who ill help and guide you along the way. You will find out who and what is out and about in our woods and other wild places.
30th March - Wildlife Words - Storymaking, poetry,verse
Nature is a great inspiration. Explore Mugdock’s awe inspiring wild places to stimulate and open the mind. Express the magnificence of the world around about us in word and story. We will be making our way through woodlands and open spaces to gain valuable insight on this creative writing session. You can chose whether you want to share your work in this friendly and supportive environment.
6th April - Forest Art
Use the bounty of nature to let your imagination run wild, creating pictures on the ground using just what you find in the woods.
13th April - Bushcraft
What would you do if left in the wilds on your own. Come and learn the skills needed to survive in a wild situation.
27th April - Bows and Arrows
A weapon of choice for thousands of years, come and make a bow and arrows from wood found in our wild places. Then try a bit of target practice and see how good you are, before taking it home with you.
4th May - Discovering Nature
Wood louse, red squirrels and woodpeckers. Mugdock is home to many amazing and astounding creatures. Come with the ranger into the woods and see how many you can find.
11th May - All about Runes
Become familiar with the ancient runic alphabet and decipher clues as we follow a trail through Mugdock.
18th May - Hapa
Use flowers, leaves and other vegetation to make natural prints using the ancient Japanese technique of print making called Hapa Zome.
25th May - Fires
Fires need a lot of attention. Let's gather wood, build a fire, light it, and most importantly, keep it lit. Are you up for the challenge? Let’s find out. All instruction will be given by the ranger, who will guide you through the proccess.
8th June - Bushcraft

Try your hand at whittling. The old skill of making things from sticks using just a small knife. You’ll be amazed at what you can create. All tools and instructions are provided and you will take home whatever you make.
