Join us for a skill packed day of playful creativity with Cassandra Baron, learning her special contemporary and sustainable take on bookbinding with this fun and intriguing Accordion Matchbox Books workshop. Make a series of playful accordion fold books in this workshop – this dynamic book structure incorporates collage, cut outs, stitched inserts, pockets and envelopes. Matchbox books are a great way to showcase remnant and hand printed papers in a personalised and sentimental keepsake. Collate papers you have gathered on your travels, create a memory or mindfulness book, or gather together your source materials and inspirations to create a themed Artist Book. In the workshop we will create a mini accordion book and matchbox book case with the option to also work on a dinky A7 sized accordion fold book. Check out our upcoming paper-based workshops in Cyanotype Photography and Gelli Plate Printing as perfect workshops to compliment your new bookbinding skills.
You’ll leave this workshop with a fun collection of finished small books, and we will send follow up video instructions that you can refer to for a reminder of what is covered in class, and if you need a little time to finish at home. You will leave the workshop with a finished book as well as the skills and confidence to carry on bookbinding at home. And if you’re hooked on books (you will be) Cass will have kits available to purchase for £12 at the end of the workshop.
All materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring along any of your own decorative papers to include in your book. This class comes with access to comprehensive video instructions should you want to make more books at home (they make great gifts).
This course is part of a new monthly series of bookbinding workshops, held on the last Tuesday of every month, with a new technique being showcased each time. You can drop in and learn just one technique, (all classes are suitable for complete beginners), or you can book them all and build up your repertoire of bookbinding skills!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
