STIRLING BID SPONSORS CITY’S MAGICAL FAIRYTALE TRAIL

The popular event, organised by two creative local businesswomen, raises vital funds for the National Autistic Society Scotland and is this year sponsored by the city’s Business Improvement District – Go Forth Stirling BID.

The 2km Fairytale Trail, which takes place on Sunday July 28, features much-loved characters from children’s stories including the Gruffalo, the Tin Man, the princesses from Frozen, Humpty Dumpty, Rapunzel, Pinocchio and more.

It is organised by Lisa Davidson who runs Friars Street gift shop Tinkerbells Emporium and Laura McClintock - owner and tattooist at the Nevermore Tattoo & Piercing studio.

Lisa and Laura first organised the Fairytale Trail in April 2022 to raise funds for the autism charity – a cause which is close to both their hearts.

They spent hours hand-painting all the characters and the event was an enormous success with scores of children and adults dressing up as their favourite fairytale character to walk the route from the Albert Halls to Kings Park.

They repeated the Trail last year and hope this year’s event will be the best ever - pushing them through their target of raising £12,000 for the National Autistic Society.

They have already raised just over £10,500 through the Trails and other fundraising activities via their Just Giving page - www.JustGiving.com/LisaAndLauraFriarsSt - and are planning another fundraiser later this year when they will travel to Peru to trek Machu Picchu.

Lisa said: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s Fairytale Trail and have added new interactive experiences for children to enjoy along the route as well as some hand-painted cardboard books which we have created for them.

“We’ve also added more characters to the Julia Donaldson books section so the Trail will be even bigger and better than last year.

“It should be a fun-filled day for all the family which will help us raise vital funds for and awareness of the National Autistic Society Scotland which does so much for people with autism.

“We’re hoping that around 100 adults and children will come along on the day and we have an Eventbrite platform this year where people can sign up in advance as soon as possible – this is really helpful as it gives us more time to organise the personalised goody bags we hand out to all our finishers.”

She added: “I’m extremely grateful to the BID for the sponsorship funds they have provided – it’s a big help because the event has always been self-funded and that’s difficult to sustain as it becomes bigger and more popular. It’s fantastic to have this funding in place and to also benefit from the BID’s marketing support as the organisation has a bigger reach than we do.”

The Fairytale Trail is one of several initiatives, including a Creative Stirling exhibition, to be sponsored by Go Forth after the organisation encouraged local business owners and individuals to come forward with grant applications.

Jitka Fleglova, Community Engagement Manager at Go Forth Stirling, said: “We’re always keen to support initiatives which help our key goal of increasing footfall into Stirling city centre and are a real benefit to the local community.

“The Fairytale Trial is a fantastic event which Lisa and Laura put so much work into and which is well-received by those who attend. It brings extra visitors into the city centre, which all our businesses benefit from, and creates a real buzz around Stirling as well as raising money for charity.

“We are very pleased to be able to support the venture and look forward to a great day out in July.”

The Fairytale Trail was also a finalist in this year’s Go Forth Stirling Business Awards as a contender for Outstanding Contribution to Stirling.
The family-friendly event begins at 11am on Sunday July 28 with face painting, a tombola and stalls on Friars Street before participants meet up at the Albert Halls at 1pm to walk the Fairytale Trail.

They will be led by Tinkerbell the Fairy and each entrant who completes the Trail will receive a personalised finishers bag. There are also prizes to be won for costumes.

The event is free with a minimum of £20 sponsorship per entry and the organisers have an Eventbrite link for sign-ups which can be accessed via www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/stirling-fairytale-trail-chapter

Go Forth Stirling BID represents more than 600 business owners with a key objective of increasing visitors to the city and devising initiatives to help make it a more welcoming environment for businesses and shoppers.
