David Nicholas Wilkinson, winner of the first Stirling 900 Award for Achievement in Documentary, will be screening a work-in-progress version of his latest piece, The Marbles at Central Scotland Documentary Festival 2024.

The film makes the case for repatriating the Parthenon Marbles from the UK to Greece, and more widely explores a very modern dilemma – how do former colonial powers address their historical sins?

With this film, Wilkinson explores how Scotland has become a world leader in repatriating artifacts which had been acquired by dubious means to their land of origin.

Actor Brian Cox, Neil Curtis (Head of Museums and Special Collections at the University of Aberdeen), Patricia Allan (Curator of World Cultures at Glasgow Museums) and retired businessman Tom Minogue help to tell the story of Scotland's involvement in this pioneering work. Scottish actor Shian Denovan delivers a specially prepared statement from the Scottish government.

The Marbles is set to be completed in 2025 following the sourcing of further funding, but a special 25-minute work in progress version will be screened at CSDF’s event A Doc, A Dinner & A Drink on Friday 1 November.
